Stops Along the Walk
Saint Francis lived some of the most intense moments of his short life in the Sacred Valley. We know for sure that he reached the province of Rieti in 1223 but he may have passed through even earlier. Ancient sources say that the Saint first arrived in this spectacular area in 1209.
He left the valley in April 1226, only six months before his death.

The Walk is made up of eight stops. It begins in Rieti and winds through the Sacred Valley with stops at the four Franciscan Sanctuaries: La Foresta, Poggio Bustone, Greccio and Fontecolombo. From here the walk continues onto the Saint Francis Beech Tree at Rivodutri, the climb up Mount Terminillo to visit the remains of the Ragged Saint and then towards the Franciscan convent in Posta.

Before setting off, visit the Rieti Tourist Board offices. Specialised personnel will illustrate the Walk and its sites in detail.
